How important are "popup" titles embedded in links to optimization of a Web page?
Our next expert is local marketing guru and long-time Adhost client Ian Lurie of Portent Interactive, a full-service Internet marketing agency. Here's our question for Ian: How important are "popup" titles embedded in links to optimization of a Web page?
Answer: There's no clear answer regarding the 'title' attribute of links. That attribute looks like this:
<a href="mypage.html" title="the title here">
In my experience, a keyword-rich title attribute has very little impact when compared to, say, keyword-rich link text. So this:
<a href="mypage.html" title="keywords">Ian Lurie</a>
Is not nearly as good as this:
<a href="mypage.html" title="keywords">keywords</a>
That said, the title attribute is very, very important for accessibility: People using screen readers or other assistive devices will appreciate it.
My take on it is: It certainly does no harm. It may do some good. And it's part of accessibility best practices anyway. So why not do it?
