Support - WWWBoard

WWWBoard is a World Wide Web-based Message Board System. The messages are fully threaded (similar to newsgroups) so that the user only has to read those messages she is interested in.

These scripts are another example of freely distributable programs made available by Matt Wright to whom we all owe a debt of thanks.

Instructions

1. Secure Shell (SSH2) to the Web server you are hosted on. (If you are hosted on a Microsoft server, you will need webmaster intervention to make this software work.)
2. Make sure your current directory is your Web site (type "pwd" at the prompt to see the current directory):
   pwd
3. Enter the following line to extract the files you will need.:
   tar -xf /var/spool/ftp/pub/adhost/wwwboard_tar
4. Now change directories to your newly created wwwboard directory:
   cd wwwboard
5. And correct the file permissions:
   chmod 757 messages
   chmod 646 wwwboard.html
   chmod 646 data.txt
   chmod 646 passwd.txt
6. Now, carefully read the README file:
   more README
   (hit spacebar to scroll down the page)
   (hit Q to exit)
7. Edit wwwboard.html according to the instructions in README:
   pico wwwboard.html
8. Edit wwwadmin.html according to the instructions in README:
   pico wwwadmin.html
9. Make a link to "wwwboard.html" in one or more of your pages:
   Link to Message Boards   Contact Support for username and password
10. You may also wish to make a link to wwwadmin.html, or just remember what it is called when you need to do maintenance. There is no need to fear what others will do if they get to that page, since nothing can be changed without the admin username and password, but you need to change that password from the default. To learn how to do that, and learn what the default values are now, you will need to read ADMIN_README for info about the online administration program, and how it is used. You can do that from your web browser, as the ADMIN_README is linked from the wwwadmin.html page.
