Support - Counter Script

This is a tutorial on how to use the Adhost Counter Script.

NOTE! You will have to send email to support@adhost.com to have your domain activated as an Adhost counter site before your counter will work properly. ONLY customers of Adhost Internet Advertising qualify for this service.
Also note: This counter WILL NOT WORK for clients on Microsoft servers. Front Page clients should use the counter "webbot" included with Front Page.

For all the examples on this page we will assume your sitename is abc-inc.com and you want to count your index.html webpage.

Basic Counter

The most basic counter is shown below. Replace "abc-inc" with "yourdomain" (without the .com or .org, etc.).

NOTE: The capital "C" in Count is required.

IMG SRC="/cgi-bin/Count.cgi?df=abc-inc.index"

Would you prefer that the counter only be as long as it needs to be to display the count number? No problem, just add the "pad=0" tag;

IMG SRC="/cgi-bin/Count.cgi?pad=0|df=abc-inc.index"

You can put counters, in different styles if you like, on as many of your pages as you like. Each counter must reference the page it is counting: If you want to count your page2.html page, use:

IMG SRC="/cgi-bin/Count.cgi?df=abc-inc.page2"

If you want to count your products.html page, use:

IMG SRC="/cgi-bin/Count.cgi?df=abc-inc.products"

NOTE: The more counters you put on your page, the slower it will be while loading. So only use what you feel you need.

Styles

Adhost offers a selection of Counter Styles for your use here. To use a particular counter style, add the "dd=" argument to the cgi-bin string, like this;

IMG SRC="/cgi-bin/Count.cgi?dd=H|df=abc-inc.index"

The above example tells the counter to use Style "H" and increment the counter datafile "abc-inc.index".

Invisible Counters

Here is an example of how to setup an "invisible" counter. Basically, you have a counter like this:

IMG SRC="/cgi-bin/Count.cgi?sh=0|df=abc-inc.index"
and then on another page, for example, "counters.html" (you can have all your invisible counters display on this one page):

IMG SRC="/cgi-bin/Count.cgi?incr=0|df=abc-inc.index"

The "sh=0" says "don't show this counter", while the "incr=0" says don't increment this counter. So it counts without showing on one page, and displays without counting again on your "private" page.
