Support - IPv6 Information

Adhost is pleased to announce that we have acquired and are routing IP addresses that conform to Internet Protocol, version 6 (IPv6). For non-techies, an IP (Internet Protocol) address is a unique number assigned to each computer or other device connected to the Internet. An IP address usually takes the form of numbers separated by dots (for example, 122.132.167.251). On the Web, most of us refer to IP addresses by their easier to remember alias which is their domain name or URL.

Why is IPv6 important? Demands for normal IP addresses (IPv4) have greatly increased and address space in this block of addresses is running short world-wide. Thus, the next generation of IPs will come into more widespread use in the near future and increase the number of available IP addresses from 4,294,967,296 to a whopping 340,282,366,920,938,463,463,374,607,431,768,211,456 - that's a lot of addresses!

As a part of this roll-out, we are happy to inform you that all of our core infrastructure, including our network, domain-name, mail and web-hosting services are configured and ready for the eventual switch-over. If you have questions about IPv6 and how it might relate to your services, please contact our Technical Services team at support@adhost.com.
