Merchant Support - Inventory
Global Inventory Control
The Inventory Control link from the page top menu of the Catalog section of the admin goes to this area where you may elect to have inventory control set to on or off and choose the inventory level below which the Admin email address (settable under Configuration > Edit Text Messages) will receive an inventory level warn mail.
Per Product or Size Inventory Control
Inventory warn levels may be set separately per product or product size. This is done in the product Add / Edit page. This warns level will override the global warn level. Note that global inventory control must be set to active to use the product level settings.
Inventory Warn Level
An email warning of low-inventory will be sent to the Admin Address (settable under Configuration > Edit Text Messages) when inventory falls to the amount entered here.
Out of Inventory Display Behavior
When a product has zero inventory, the front-end user will still be able to navigate to the detail page for that product but the add-to-cart button will be suppressed and the following text will appear in bold beneath the product description:
"We're sorry, this product is temporarily out of stock. Please check back soon."
If a product has sizes, the add-to-cart button will appear as long as there is inventory remaining for any one size - however, sizes for which there is no inventory will no longer display in the size select box. If all sizes reach zero inventory, display of the add-to-cart and sizes select box will be suppressed and the out-of-stock warning (as above) will appear.
