Merchant Support - Discounting

The Adhost Merchant6 includes three mechanisms for providing a discounted price - Global Order Threshold Discounting, Per Product Volume Discounting and Promotion Codes. These are accessed through the Discounts area of the Merchant Manager.

Global Order Threshold Discounting

The global Threshold Discount feature allows creation of multiple order total thresholds and application of a different flat rate or percentage discount to each. Moreover, these can be mixed and matched if desired. Example: Users who spend over $50.00 can be set to receive a $5.00 discount on their order total while users who spend over $100.00 could be set to receive a 5% discount.

Per Product Volume Discounting

To use this method:

  1. Set the radio button choice in Configuration > Discounts to the selection "Per Product Volume Discount (Based on the quantity of each individual product purchased).".
  2. Go to Product Edit and set individual volume levels per product.
    • Scroll to the bottom of the product page to the Volume Pricing Discount table
    • Enter the first quantity level at which a discount will apply
    • Enter the percent for the discount (Example: "20.00" or "20")
    • Click Save. The page will refresh and an additional row will be exposed in the table
    • Add and save levels till done
  3. Users will now see a link to a Volume Discount chart on the product detail page for the product.
  4. Discounted price will be applied based on quantity of individual product purchased

NOTE: If you have chosen Per Product Discounting, any Global Threshold Discount levels you may have entered will be ignored.

Promotion Codes

The Merchant Manager area provides a utility for the creation of promotion codes as below:

  1. Add as many codes as you wish.
  2. For each, select a start and end date.
  3. For each, if desired, add a comma separated list of products that will be free.
  4. For each, set a percentage discount that will be applied to the order subtotal before taxes and shipping.
  5. For each, set a flat-dollar amount that will be deducted from the order subtotal before taxes and shipping (4 and 5 are mutually exclusive)
  6. For each, select free shipping. Free shipping may be combined with either 4 or 5
  7. For each, select "One Time". One time means that the code will be used only once. Once the code has been used, it will appear as "expired" under the status heading. The one time usage is roughly equivalent to gift certificate usage BUT, the system does not track balances, if any.

An additional field - "Status" applies only to promotion codes that have been selected as "One Time" and will automatically default to expired as soon as the code has been used.

Users enter their promotion codes on the billing page. If valid, the appropriate discount is applied. If invalid or expired, the user is provided with appropriate cueing.
