Merchant Support - Adding Categories
Most Adhost Merchant© customers organize their products into categories and sub-categories for display. You may enter as many categories and sub-categories as necessary. Instructions for assigning sub-categories to the proper parent are available in the Field List.
Products in Multiple Categories: The Adhost Merchant allows you to enter a product once but associate it with multiple categories. You may then set a product display sort order per category in the category edit page.
Category Images are stored in the images/categories directory. FTP access to this directory will be provided during setup of your Adhost Merchant.
Category Image Display is controlled from the Configuration > Category / Product Display Options link in the Merchant Manager. You may choose alignment for Category images as well as choose how many are displayed per line.
Category Deletion and Product Assignment When a category is deleted, the Merchant performs the following actions:
- Deletes category from the category table.
- Deletes category-to-product relationships for that category from the product_categories table.
- Checks for any products not-associated with a category and deletes them along with their sizes and second attribute values.
- Deletes all product, FAQ, and Document relationships for that category from the relationships table.
- Removes all products under that category from the basket_items table.
Product Upload and Category Assignment When uploading a product sheet with new category assignments, previous category assignments will not be affected. As the merchant allows association of a product with multiple categories, the import action for category assignments is to append rather than update. This means, for example, that if product PA is currently assigned to category CA and you include product PA in a subsequent upload action with a new category CB in the parent category field, product PA will now be assigned to categories CA and CB.
Removing Product Category Associations Product to Category associations must be removed from the Merchant admin. This can be done two ways:
- By Deleting the Category - As above, this will remove the product associations for all products in that category
- By Editing the Product - Navigate to the product you wish to edit and deselect the category you wish to remove the association from in the parent category window.
