Support - Fetch FTP HTML Tutorial
Fetch is a user-friendly Macintosh FTP client application. It allows point-and-click, drag and drop file transfers to and from any machine with an FTP server, over a TCP/IP network (your Internet connection).
Making a Connection
- Double click on the Fetch icon
- Enter your host, User ID, and password. The directory field is optional.
- After you have entered the above info click the OK button.
- You will then see a directory listing of files on your Web server.
- From Customize menu choose new shortcut
- You will then be presented with dialog box like the one below
- If you have a connection to your server Fetch should have put in some of this information for you.
- You can fill in password and you will not be prompted for one at login. (THIS IS NOT VERY SECURE)
- Choose OK
- This connection will now be available in your shortcuts list under the file and open shortcut.
- For an automated login, this connection can be set as the default in preferences. See above
- Choose Automatic on the above dialog box
- Under the customize menu (below) choose Preferences.
- Choose the third tab Upload
- Default text format: should be set to text
- Default non-text format: should be set to Raw Data
- The next three check boxes should be left blank
- Encode and decode file and folder names should be checked
- Choose OK
- On the dialog box in front of you (Diagram B above), choose the folder in which you want the file - for example: images
- Choose "Put" button
- A dialog box will come up displaying files and folders on your Mac
- Navigate to and select the file you wish to upload - for example: logo.gif (To select multiple files go to menu option "remote" and pull down to "files and folders")
- Select Open
- You will then get a confirmation dialog box verifying the format.
- If you are uploading a graphic file, GIF or JPG it should read Raw Data
- If you are uploading a text file or htm file, it should read text
- Choose OK
- On the dialog box in front of you (Diagram B above), choose the folder you wish to get your file from - for example: images (To select multiple files, hold down the shift key as you select)
- Select the file with your mouse.
- Choose Get button
- A dialog box will come up displaying files and folders on your Mac
- Choose your down load folder
- Choose Save
At this point, it would be a good idea to save a new shortcut.
