Support - EMM Tutorial - Build your lists and import subscribers

The subscriber list, by itself, is just a collection of settings. Note that it is also possible to batch subscribe users (scroll to the bottom of this page to see those instructions).

  • Subscribers are associated with one or more lists, they are not duplicated.
  • You will need a bounce address setup by Adhost.
  • It is a good idea to select a default template for each list, though you can use any template when sending out your campaigns.
  1. To create a list, click on Lists-Create New List.
  2.

  3. Choose a name for your list then click Create.
  4. On the next screen you will need to choose the template you would like to use with this list and input the email address your campaign will come from. See the manual for details on how to do this or click on the purple info icon for help. Fill out the remaining pages in this section: Formatting, Options, Tracking, Advanced, according to your preferences for this particular list of subscribers. If we have not given you a bounce address please contact us and request one it will make your campaigns run much more smoothly. Click "Update" to save the configuration.
  5.

  6. Now that you have your list named you can import your subscriber database into the list. If you have an Access, Outlook, or Excel database, you will need to be sure it is saved as a comma delimited file (the file name will have a ".csv" extension). Please replace all blank fields with "NONE" (no quotes). To add the subscribers to your new list, click on "Subscribers" import subscribers". On this screen click the "Browse" button to find your .csv file on your computer. There are three checkboxes that you may check if you wish, although you don't need to worry about these with your very first email campaign. (FYI, "Field Headers" refers to how you have set up your database, such as whether you have fields like first name, last name, or company in addition to your customer email address.)
  7. The next screen will ask you to confirm the fields you will use. For the email address you will click on the drop down menu to the right and choose "Email." Continue this process with any other fields you have in your database file. When done with this step, click "Continue." If you had any custom fields, you would want to set those up on the "Segmentaion-->Custom fields" page beforehand. The default format for importing subscribers is plain text. To have the import set everyone as HTML, create a column in your export that has "email format" and insert HTML into all those records. This really won't matter, as you will probably want to send a multipart message.
  8. The last step is to verify into which list you want to import the subscribers. Choose from the drop-down menu then click "Continue."
  9. The next screen shows an Import Progress bar that will tell you when the import is completed. Also, you will receive an email in your inbox with the import details when the process is finished.

Batch Subscribe

It is also possible to batch subscribe users. This would be practical for small lists or updates to large lists. In the menu, select "Subscribers", then "Batch Subscribe". Follow the instructions there.
