How can I make my email newsletters and offers look good on a mobile device?

With more people viewing their e-mail on Blackberrys and other mobile devices every day, it's time to start taking this into consideration when crafting your e-mail marketing messages. Although no standards exist for how e-mails are rendered on mobile devices, there are some things you can do to improve your chances of getting your message across in a positive way.

Improve your chances of getting your message across when viewed on a mobile device by:

Sending your message in Multi-Part MIME - allows those viewing your e-mail on their desktop machines to view the HTML version while the majority of those viewing on mobile devices will see the plain-text version
Optimizing your plain-text version - invite your recipient to view the e-mail as a Web page at or near the top of your message
Keeping your sender and subject lines short - mobile device inboxes have limited space to display from names and subject lines so work to make your from name easy to recognize and keep the subject line short with a call-to-action appearing at the start of it
Getting your e-mail flagged for later viewing - since most people view e-mail on their mobile devices in a triage fashion replying only to really important messages, they may only see your subject line and initial content. Craft these to attract your recipient's interest so they will view your message later on their desktop machine.
