Support - Email User Information

Display Name:

This is the name that people will see when you email them. This can be your full name or something very general that describes the email address like: info, support, or sales, just to name a few.

Email Address (AKA Domain Email Address):

This is what you would give people: friends, family, clients, or users so that they can email you; takes the form of "myname@mydomain.com" or "myname@myisp.com"

Adhost refers to this as your Domain Email Address.

Account Name, User Name, UserID:

These naming conventions commonly refer to your MailBox name.

If using Adhost, the MailBox name is NOT your domain email address.

Password:

A secret series of characters associated with the MailBox.

Configure your email client software to use newly created Mailboxes.

In general this process is the same for any email cient software you wish to use such as: Microsoft Outlook, Eudora Mail, Netscape Communicator, Microsoft Entourage, etc.

There are 4 pieces of information that any email client software needs:

  1. MailBox username
  2. MailBox password
  3. Incoming mail server: mail.adhost.com
  4. Outgoing mail server: In general this should be mail.adhost.com however many ISPs now only allow the use of their outgoing mail server. Please contact your ISP for this information.

With these 4 pieces of information you should be able to configure your email client and begin using your new email address.

SMTP Mail Server (outgoing mail server)

You have two options for your outgoing SMTP mail server.

  1. You can use the SMTP server of your Internet Service Provider (ISP) – this is the company you use to connect to the Internet (like AOL, Comcast, MSN, Earthlink … to name a few) to browse web sites.
    • Contact your ISP for the name of the SMTP server.
    • Then enter the logon information in your advanced settings.

  2. You can use our SMTP server, mail.adhost.com. There are 2 ways to configure your email client to use the Adhost SMTP server mail.adhost.com:
    1. Your mailbox username and password can be used to authenticate to the Adhost SMTP server.
    2. You can leave the username field blank (or choose "No Authentication" in some email clients).
      • Note: If you choose this option then you must receive your email first before you can send it. Our mail server requires that you must check for email before sending in order to capture your IP and ward against unauthorized users (like spammers). Your IP will be cached for 30 minutes from the last time you sent/received.
