Support - Administering MySQL

When using a MySQL database, Adhost by default will setup access to your database from your website using:

IP address of the Adhost web server where your domain resides.
Database name is the name of your domain unless otherwise specified by you.
Username/password: typically this is your ftp username/password unless otherwise specified by you.

You can manage your MySQL database in 3 ways and this will depend on the type of server where MySQL is installed:

Secure Shell (SSH) access - if MySQL is on a UNIX server
This will allow you to use the command: mysql –p
Using either MsSQL Control Center or MySQL Administrator.
A web tool called phpMyAdmin. We recommend not you do not install this tool for your web site as Adhost already has this tool installed on several servers using secured connections. Please contact support@adhost.com for the URL.

If you decide to use SSH, MySQL Control Center or MySQL Admin, the IP address of your local machine (i.e. your work or home computer) will need to be granted access to the Adhost server where your MySQL database is located. What do you need to know before you submit the 'Allow My IP Address' form?

The domain name, database name, username and password.

Why don’t I need to submit the 'Allow My IP Address' form to use phpMyAdmin?

When we initially set up your mySQL database, we grant access from your web server to the database. What this means is that we allow your domain (which resolves to the IP of your web server) to access that one database. PhpMyAdmin is an application that is installed into a subdirectory that is password protected (in other words, do not allow anonymous access to this application) on your web server therefore access is already granted by default.
