Support - Allow My IP - MySQL

Adhost strives to provide ongoing security practices that exceed industry standards. For security, we require you to submit your IP address for you to access your MySQL databases.  This helps to ensure that:

  • You are an authorized contact for your domain
  • Binds your IP address to your username and password such that all 3 must match.  Otherwise, no access is allowed.

To access your MySQL database, you need:

  1. The domain name, database name, username and password. Typically the database name is the same as your domain name and the username/password is usually the same as your ftp username/password unless otherwise specified.
  2. Indentify what IP addresses you use that will need to be granted access to the Adhost SQL servers.
  3. Fill out and submit the "Allow My IP Address" form below so that Adhost can permit the necessary IP addresses to access the Adhost SQL servers.
  4. Allow one business day for Adhost to review and verify your IP address.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What's my IP address?

Use the form at the bottom of this web page. Please use the utility below to determine your IP address. If you have multiple machines that appear to come from different IP's you will need to repeat the form to record them all unless you are behind a firewall in which case you may only need to submit one. Again, you can use the utility below to determine if the machines are coming from different IP’s or each machine is accessing the same IP.

What does the Allow My IP Address form do?

It records your IP address and binds this IP address with the database name, username, and password so as not to allow anonymous access to your data. This is one more way to ensure the safety and security of your data.

What if I have a dynamic IP Address?

You submit the IP address that you are currently using and be prepared to inform us when this changes so that we may update our access lists. Until this new IP address is updated you will not be able to access your SQL database or use PhpMyAdmin.

My IP address changes all the time or I connect from many different places, what can I do?

We then recommend using the PhpMyAdmin. PhpMyAdmin is an application that is installed in password protected subdirectory (do not allow anonymous access to this app) on your web server therefore access is already granted by default.

I have more than one database on separate SQL servers, will this require more than one access list?

Yes, since we bind your IP address with a specific domain, db name, username and password, you will need to submit the form if you have more than one MySQL databases regardless if the databases are on the same server or multiple MySQL servers.

What if my IP address changes in the future? How will I notify Adhost?

Return to this page and submit the form again - you may wish to bookmark this page. The Adhost webmaster team will be notified and update the access lists to allow your new IP.

Is the Allow My IP Address form automated? Will my IP submission take effect immediately?

No, because the "Allow My IP Address form" is publicly accessible each submission will be reviewed by an Adhost webmaster prior to being allowed access In addition, we associate that IP to your username and password. All 3 (the IP address, username, and password) must be the same before you are allowed access to the MySQL server.
