Support - Connecting to MS-SQL

Adhost Internet supports MS-SQL 2005 and 2008 databases, however, the database that is available will be dependent on the web server where your site is being hosted.

By default, Adhost configures MS SQL databases such that your web application on our server can connect to your database using a DSN-less connection string.

What this means is that the IP address or host name of the database server, in combination with your username and password, will allow your web application to use the MS-SQL database.

We recommend SQL 2008 R2 Management Studio (or the Express version) for database connections. The Host Name in the connection string from your web application is different than the host name you will use to connect to the database when using Management Studio (or Express version). Please refer to the Welcome Letter or contact support@adhost.com requesting connection information to your SQL database.

We do require that you submit the IP address (preferably a static IP) you are connecting from outside of the Adhost Network. This provides additional protection of your data. Submit the form and read more about our SQL Server security measure.

Lastly, Adhost also recommends using OLEDB connection strings in your web applications as they provide better persistent and stable connections. To create a DSN-less connection, click here for more info.
