Adhost Building Second Seattle Data Center to Meet Client Demands
Adhost Internet, a leading provider of Seattle colocation and shared server hosting in downtown Seattle, began construction on its second data center in early January. Adhost’s current data center which is located in Fisher Plaza East is almost at full capacity necessitating the building of a new data center next door in the Fisher Plaza West building.
“Just one year after expanding our current data center by 50 percent, it was time to start planning for another data center to meet our clients’ colocation demands,” stated Will Riffle, President and CEO of Adhost. The new data center will be conveniently located in the same building complex, and yet it will meet the needs of those Adhost clients who want redundant servers in two data centers in separate buildings with independent power grids, cooling systems and connectivity.
Key features of the new data center will include:
- 100 tons of N+1 cooling utilizing environmentally friendly external air exchange
- 450 KVA N+1 at full build-out with a common bus for true UPS fail-over
- Perimeter and interior card key access system with 24x7x365 security monitoring
- Seismically braced cabinets with lockable front and back doors for added security
- Pressurized floor with up flow air system
- Building redundant core network
Like the current data center, the new one will have 24 hour surveillance of visitors by security guards and surveillance cameras and limited access to the data center. All of Fisher Plaza is connected to six multi-megawatt generators that can run at full capacity for weeks with emergency refueling. “Due to more sophisticated Web applications and demanding compliance requirements such as HIPPA, Sarbanes-Oxley and PCI, we have seen a large increase in the demand for Web sites to be colocated on servers in a secure facility such as our data center,” added Riffle.
