Adhost Spotlight

One of Adhost's newest colocation clients, Snaptune Inc, offers novel radio-recording software that can actually identify individual songs, NPR news segments and other 'interesting' content on the radio. Their Windows software records any audio stream and automatically splits it up into individual songs. Users can play each song Snaptune finds, transfer them to an iPod and ultimately, after they've discovered new music that they like, they can purchase CDs from Amazon. If talk radio is more your style, Snaptune can also record any show for you, just tell it when and on what station. It can even load your iPod each morning with the latest news and the new music tracks.

Snaptune Inc. hosts their proprietary song-ID technology here at Adhost on colocated, dual-Opteron servers and their consumer facing web site www.snaptune.com on Adhost's new load-balanced web servers. "We chose Adhost after visiting other data centers because it was clearly the most professional operation in town," explained Ian Mercer of Snaptune Inc. "Our service uptime has been consistently 100% since we launched, a combination of our software design and Adhost's excellent infrastructure."

Is anyone copying your Web site?

If you're concerned that a competitor is copying content from your Web site, check out copyscape.com. You can enter a URL for a page(s) on your site and Copyscape will search for copies of that page.

Back-Up Procedures

We recommend that you always keep a back-up of your site on your own computer (see Spring Cleaning below). However, if you accidentally delete a file on our servers and don't have your own back-up, we can help you. All of our shared servers are backed-up every night, and we can restore files for you. For more information and applicable fees, check out our back-up procedures at adhost.com/support/faqs/backup/index.shtml

Spring Cleaning

It's time for spring-cleaning! Do you have a recent copy of your Web site? Is your email inbox squeaky clean? Here are a few helpful tips to keep things in a good working order.

1. Download a clean copy of your Web site. It's always a good idea to have a copy of your Web content stored on your local machine and/or on a disk. While Adhost does backup your site nightly, we still recommend that you keep a clean copy of your site as a precaution. (Note: If you require Adhost to restore your site, charges apply.)

2. Clean out those old files in your Web site directory. We recommend cleaning out all unnecessary files in your directory to improve its organization and conserve space.

3. Email cleaning and back ups. While keeping all your email from years past may be helpful for future reference, it is always a good practice to clean out those trash bins and create a backup of old mail to be stored on disk. These backups can be lifesavers if your disk drive fails or a system is wiped out (knock on wood). The process to create a backup of your email files depends on the email software you are using. If you use the Outlook calendar, you may also choose to back it up as well.

o For Outlook - Open a mail folder, then go to File, Archive. This will allow you to create a .pst file that can be saved to disk. You may also want to clean out your Trash folder by going to Tools, Options and clicking on the Other tab. You may also choose the Auto Archive button, which will give you the option of cleaning out your Trash folder.

o Creating a backup copy of a folder. On the File menu, click Import and Export. In the wizard, click Export to a file, and then click Next. Click Personal Folder File. Follow the rest of the steps in the wizard.

o Outlook Express - To compact and backup email folders select an email folder. On the File menu, point to Folder, and then click Compact. To back up the folder, find the folder file, and then copy it to a backup folder, floppy disk, or network drive. Outlook Express e-mail folders have a .dbx extension (for example, "Sent Items.dbx").
