Keeping Current

Your domain name and Adhost account information

Your Domain Name

When was the last time you thought about your domain name? It's not something that comes to mind very often for most of us; however, it is important to remember that your domain names are your property and thus your responsibility to renew. Your first step is to determine your domain registrant. You should also record your account ID and password and store them securely for your future reference. Here's a brief list of some popular domain registrars:

Network Solutions:
http://www.networksolutions.com/en_US/whois/index.jhtml
Tucows:
http://resellers.tucows.com/whois
Register.com
http://www.register.com/whois_lookup.cgi
GoDaddy.com
https://registrar.godaddy.com/whois.asp

If you can't remember when your domain name expires you can look it up by searching the WHOIS database at any of the sites listed above. While you are there make certain all the information displayed is exactly correct, and your administrative contact information is current, as domain renewal notices are sent via mail and email to this person. If this information is incorrect you could risk losing the services of your domain name for days until any issue is resolved.

Also be aware that information displayed on your domain registration WHOIS lookup is publicly available and could have serious security implications. See this article from Network Solutions about this issue: http://www.internetprivacyadvocate.org/ProtectYourPersonalInfo.htm

By the way, if you would like to register additional domain names you can do this by using your Adhost Control Panel at https://client.adhost.com. Adhost offers domain name registration services $17.95 per year (half the price some companies charge).

Your Adhost Account

Just a reminder that it is very important to keep the contact information of your Adhost account current with your company's correct address, phone number, email address, and a list of employees that are authorized to have access to your account. Keeping this information current allows us to serve you faster and more efficiently.

Customers who have servers colocated here at Adhost should ensure that we have the emergency contact information and best methods of reaching the person responsible for your servers. This way we may contact you immediately if your equipment is experiencing problems.

You may make changes to your account information any time by accessing your Adhost Control Panel at https://client.adhost.com or by calling us at 888-234-6781.

Adhost Spotlight

360 Views Available Easier than Ever!

The Space Needle already had a lovely web site designed by Hornall Anderson but needed some programming work. Nothing more natural than to work with Adhost, their across-the-street neighbor, to spec a new online ticketing application based on our Adhost Merchant E-Commerce cart. Now you can purchase O-Deck tickets for delivery or pick-up. Take a look and take in the view:

Adhost Email Abuse

Adhost Abuse - Client TOS Notification

You may have noticed that the Adhost support department has started sending out messages that read "Re: Client TOS Notification" in the subject line. The reason we are sending out these notifications is that AOL started blocking the Adhost mail server thus inhibiting any of our clients from sending emails to AOL users. We have many clients that not only send messages to AOL users, but also receive messages from their domain and have them forwarded to their AOL account. Because we have a significant user base that have AOL accounts, it is just not viable for our mail server to be continuously blocked by AOL, much less any other Internet Service Provider (ISP).

If you receive one of these messages from Adhost and want more information or how to respond please go to:

Online Attacks

A recent report from the Sans Institute has outlined various online schemes that attempt to steal your personal information, gain access to your computer files, or just wreak havoc with your computer. We have compiled the report on our site which outlines what type of email subject lines to be wary of, and also which emails may try to convince you to delete files on your computer to get rid of a pseudo virus.
