December 2003
Due to a legal settlement, the new version of Microsoft's Internet Explorer web browser will no longer seamlessly load Flash movies or other content called from an "object" or "embed" tag. Instead, IE will detect and present a JavaScript warning window that will require the user to click "okay" to download the content. If your site contains Flash or other content that uses object or embed tags and you do not want users to see this warning, the content will need to be called differently in the web page code. The new version of IE will start shipping in early 2004. For more information, please see:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/ieupdate/ If you do not have resources to make these changes, Adhost resources can make them for you. There will be a charge for this that will depend on the number of such calls within your site. Please contact support@adhost.com - 206-404-9500 - for details. If, due to subsequent legal developments, this is no longer necessary, Adhost will update this information on our support site.

A Healthy Addition to the Adhost Merchant Family Nearly 20 years ago, Harbor Press began by selling a single book title. Over the years, they expanded their offerings to include more than a dozen titles, a topical pain reliever, and plans for a full line of health products. Now doing business as Harbor Health, their next priority was to migrate to the web. When their original cart was no longer able to provide all the functions they needed, they switched to the Adhost Merchant. As they continue to add new features - taking advantage of the Merchant's flexibility - the site is fast becoming all they hoped for--a source of information about the company, and a successful online marketing channel for the company's products.

Several email providers, most notably AOL and Hotmail, have made huge changes in how they handle HTML email messages. In an attempt to fight the SPAM epidemic they have taken drastic steps including blocking graphics and disabling links. In addition, Microsoft's Outlook 2003 has features which affect how images and links are displayed in HTML email messages. Our partners at WhatCounts have created an excellent article explaining all of these changes and what steps you can take to ensure your messages will continue to be received by your clientele.
